Think of Bolivia as a kaleidoscope of diverse images and a place where extremes meet... Along with its remarkable ancient cultures and pre-Columbian ruins, Bolivia has a phenomenal range of natural habitats that extend from the headwaters of the Amazon, across snow-capped Andean peaks pointing towards the hot dry coast that borders the Pacific Ocean. Traveling around Bolivia really makes you feel like experiencing planet earth. During our journey around this intriguing country, we'll visit some of the most diverse and interesting areas in the world. From La Paz, perched high in the Andes, we will make our way through the Altiplano to Sajama-Lauca National Park, where we'll have time to wander amongst the world’s highest reserve of wild vicuñas. Then trek through Amazon Rainforest, observing wildlife and learning of the medicinal properties of plants, and gazing up in awe at Madidi-Pilon Lajas National Park, one of the true wonders of the world as stated in National Geographic Magazine. WHERE? • La Paz - The city of contrasts: a unique blend of cultures and ways of life, and located within breathtaking panoramas. • Sajama & Lauca National Parks - Located on the border Bolivia-Chile, imposing Mt. Sajama and "twin mountains" Payachatas (Mt. Parinacota and Mt. Pomerape) give these protected areas an exceptional natural beauty. The extensive pastures around the mountains are home to llamas, alpacas, guanacos and vicunas, and many species of Andean birds, like the threatened Andean Rhea (Lesser Rhea), three species of flamingos, eagles, hawks, and condors of course... The historical attractions include pre-Inca remains and several small churches built during the 17th Century. Today local residents still preserve a rich mix of traditional customs with pre-Inca and colonial influences, giving this area a very interesting atmosphere. • Madidi & Pilon Lajas National Parks - It is one of Bolivia’s flagship nature reserves, and with a surface area of ca. 20,000 km² for Madidi alone, one of the key components of the Vilcabamba-Amboró Conservation Corridor (VACC), considered the most biologically diverse hotspot on the planet. The protected area harbors an impressive altitudinal range of nearly 5,500 m (between 5,760 and 180 meters above sea level). Its topography is mainly mountainous, with abrupt relief and deep canyons, which determines a great variety of ecological zones. WHAT?
